TechKnowHow To Begin Offering Franchises for Children’s Educational Programs

February 19, 2013 // Franchising.com // Foster City, CA) - TechKnowHow, a leading provider of innovative and educational LEGO® building and technology programs, will begin offering franchises in February, 2013. The TechKnowHow franchise program includes many sources of revenue including summer camps, afterschool classes, preschool enrichment, weekend workshops, and birthday parties. It is a home-based franchise, where owners leverage school and community centers to host the sessions.

TechKnowHow has designed and taught classes since 1994 and has grown to become one of the premier technology programs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Each year, thousands of students attend the program in the region, many returning year after year to improve their science and technology skills through fun, hands-on projects. Last year, the summer camps alone drew over 3000 participants in the region!

Among the popular classes are those where students build LEGO® creations that they drive with a remote, make 3D games to play on a mobile device, and design robots to perform tasks with motors and sensors. Classes are offered for ages ranging from 3 to 14 years old, with developmentally appropriate activities for each age group.

TechKnowHow’s founder, Bob Mancini, received a Master’s in Business (Industrial Administration) from Carnegie-Mellon University, and then worked in brand management at Hanes. There, he became interested in methods to foster and accelerate learning, which led him to pursue a teaching credential and start TechKnowHow as a program to excite students about technology and science. “It feels very satisfying to see a student gain confidence in their creativity and building skills at one of our camps,“ Bob says. “When a parent tells us that her child talked all night about what he or she built, or that they woke up extra early the next morning eager to get to class, we feel very excited that we are making a positive difference in the education of that child.”

TechKnowHow’s model is designed to keep start-up costs modest. It is a home-based business which leverages schools and recreation centers to host the classes. Total initial investment ranges from $34,950 to $69,600.
