MosquitoNix® Urges Dallas/Ft. Worth Residents to Start the Fight against Mosquitos During Springtime

Company Offers Five Things Everyone Should Know about Mosquitos to Protect Themselves

May 01, 2014 // Franchising.com // CARROLLTON, Texas - MosquitoNix®, the nation’s leader in mosquito control and mosquito misting systems, urges residents in Dallas and Ft. Worth to get mosquito control during springtime when warmer weather and more rain create ideal breeding conditions for mosquitos. A mosquito free backyard makes for a fun spring and summer but is also an important safety measure. In 2012, North Texas was the hardest hit by West Nile virus. More than 1,800 people in Texas were infected with West Nile Virus and 89 people died.

"Now is the time to get rid of mosquitos," said Dan O’Neal, chairman & CEO of FEMO Group Holdings, MosquitoNix’s parent company. "We at MosquitoNix continue our longstanding commitment to enable people to enjoy their backyards and protect them from annoying mosquitos, or worse, catch dangerous diseases, like West Nile virus. We also want to educate all residents about mosquitos and the importance of mosquito control," he added.

MosquitoNix offers the following five things everyone should know about mosquitos to protect themselves:

5. Start mosquito control as early as springtime, when the weather reaches 50 degrees.

4. Eliminate everything that contains water on your property.

3. You may have already been infected with West Nile virus and not know it.

2. West Nile Virus has cost the United States nearly $800 million in health expenses.

1. Aerial spraying by local governments isn’t effective.

Dallas County Health and Human Services said earlier this year that it is expecting an increase in reports of West Nile virus cases this year because it has changed the rules for diagnosing the disease. Last year, if you didn’t have a medically documented fever, but tested positive for West Nile virus, it wasn’t counted. This year it is. The increase in number of cases may increase the call for more spraying.

"The earlier you start your mosquito control the better your chance for a carefree summer. We are proud that more and more people in Dallas and Ft. Worth trust MosquitoNix to keep them mosquito free," said Josh Ingram, President of MosquitoNix. "We are ready to help them and are looking forward to exceeding their expectations. Enabling a carefree and bug free outdoor experience is what MosquitoNix is all about," he added.

MosquitoNix® offers misting systems and one-time treatments called QuickNix™. MosquitoNix® uses natural solutions to eliminate flying, biting insects such as mosquitoes, no-see-ums, flies, fleas, and ticks. MosquitoNix® misting system nozzles are placed every ten to twelve feet around the perimeter of a home, and on average mist three to four times per day, each lasting 20 to 45 seconds. Pyrethrum, permethrin, and essential oils are the active ingredients used in our mosquito control systems. QuickNix™, the one-time treatment, is a three-step program that includes fogging, granules and larvicide (Bt-israelensis (Bt-i)) applications.

Mosquito control has become a fast growing industry due to changing weather patterns across North America and the emerging threat of mosquito borne illnesses. According to the CDC, West Nile virus is now endemic to the United States and peak time for the spread of the virus will be from July through October, surging in August. As of January 7, 2014, 48 states and the District of Columbia reported West Nile virus infections that occurred in 2013 in people, birds, or mosquitoes. A total of 2,374 cases of West Nile virus disease in people, including 114 deaths, have been reported to the CDC for 2013.
