June 30, 2014 // Franchising.com // CARROLLTON, Texas - MosquitoNix®, the nation’s leader in mosquito control and mosquito misting systems, is joining the efforts of the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA), and offering mosquito control tips to mark the eighteenth annual National Mosquito Control Awareness Week. The goal of Mosquito Week is to educate the general public about the world’s deadliest animal and the life threatening diseases it carries such as West Nile virus.
On April 24, 2014, Dallas Health officials confirmed that a mosquito tested positive for West Nile virus. In 2012, North Texas was the hardest hit by West Nile virus. More than 1,800 people in Texas were infected with West Nile Virus and 89 people died.
"We at MosquitoNix have a long standing commitment to protect our communities against mosquitos and inform the public about the dangers of mosquitos," said Dan O’Neal, chairman & CEO of FEMO Group Holdings, MosquitoNix’s parent company. "We are working towards the day when the first week of summer is about enjoying the great outdoors, and not about worrying about getting bitten or, worse, being at risk for mosquito borne illnesses," he added.
MosquitoNix offers the following tips to protect against mosquitos:
"Many people aren’t aware that the mosquito is the world’s deadliest animal and the number one carrier of infectious diseases," said Mike O’Neal, General Manager of MosquitoNix Dallas. "Mosquito control is not only about repelling annoying bugs, it’s also about eliminating a dangerous threat to your family and friends. We’re proud to offer peace of mind, in the form of mosquito control, to more and more customers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area."
MosquitoNix offers misting systems and a 3-step treatment program called QuickNix™. MosquitoNix® uses natural solutions to eliminate flying, biting insects such as mosquitoes, no-see-ums, flies, fleas, and ticks. MosquitoNix misting system nozzles are placed every ten to twelve feet around the perimeter of a home, and on average mist three to four times per day, each lasting 20 to 45 seconds. Pyrethrum, permethrin, and essential oils are the active ingredients used in our mosquito control systems. QuickNix™, the 3-step treatment program, includes fogging, granules and larvicide (Bt-israelensis (Bt-i)) applications.
Mosquito control has become a fast growing industry due to changing weather patterns across North America and the emerging threat of mosquito borne illnesses. According to the CDC, West Nile virus is now endemic to the United States and peak time for the spread of the virus will be from July through October, surging in August. As of January 7, 2014, 48 states and the District of Columbia reported West Nile virus infections that occurred in 2013 in people, birds, or mosquitoes. A total of 2,374 cases of West Nile virus disease in people, including 114 deaths, have been reported to the CDC for 2013.
