To enjoy the summer, the company is providing seven practical tips to fight mosquitos around homes and in backyards. To mark the 19th annual National Mosquito Control Awareness Week, which takes place from June 21 to June 27, 2015, MosquitoNix is also raising awareness about mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile virus and Chikungunya.

"Heavy spring showers over long periods of time prevent a drought but the remaining standing water sets the stage for prime mosquito breeding. That's why we expect a lot more mosquitos this summer, creating a threat to families and pets all across the country. More mosquitos mean more mosquito bites, or worse, it may mean more cases of mosquito-borne illnesses. To avoid being bitten and prevent catching mosquito-borne illnesses, follow these seven tips:

• Empty standing water from containers such as flowerpots, gutters, buckets, pool covers, pet water dishes, discarded tires, and birdbaths.
• Use insect repellents when you go outdoors.
• Wear long sleeves and pants from dusk to dawn.
• Install or repair screens on windows and doors. If you have it, use your air conditioner.
• Know your enemy; every year more than 1 million people die of mosquito-borne illnesses worldwide.
• Stay up to date about West Nile Virus. According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2014, the following 10 states were impacted the most by West Nile virus, in order of prevalence: California, Texas, Nebraska, Colorado, Louisiana, Arizona, South Dakota, Kansas, Mississippi, Illinois.
• Be vigilant against Chikungunya when traveling internationally. In 2014, the CDC reported that 1,100 American travelers were infected with Chikungunya when they traveled to places where Chikungunya was common. Chikungunya spreads fast because it is easily transmitted from people to mosquitos and vice versa. Consequently, 11 cases were locally transmitted in Florida in 2014. According to the CDC, as of May 19, 2015, a total of 146 Chikungunya cases were reported from 28 states for 2015.
