EnVie Fitness for Women Targets San Diego for Expansion

Signs Agreement for First Area Studio

July 24, 2015 // Franchising.com // WACO, Texas – EnVie Fitness for Women, an Australian-based fitness concept rigorously customized to the researched demands of today’s female client, is coming to San Diego.

Company plans call for opening as many as 10 area studios over the next several years. An agreement for the first location has already been signed and is expected to open in Encinitas in the fall.

According to EnVie COO Gary Findley, the former president of the Curves International chain which grew to 8,000 locations during his eight-year tenure, EnVie’s model gives women a more complete approach to health and fitness compared to other women-only fitness concepts.

“My belief is that today’s woman is not the woman of the mid-90s,” said Findley. “They’re looking for more variety and I believe that’s what EnVie brings to the table.”

Founded in Australia in 2012, EnVie (pronounced on-vee and French for “in life”) offers specifically designed signature training sessions, created by industry experts, focusing on unique zone workouts: cardio, tone, boxing, functional, express and low impact. Besides EnVie’s signature classes, women will also find classes they already know and love on the schedule such as Zumba, yoga, Pilates, Barre and more. Incorporating circuit and partner training, body weight exercises and the latest equipment, there’s an interactive and engaging workout for every fitness level.

Each training zone session is uniquely designed to correspond with one or multiple heart rate zones, meaning members have tangible and measurable results after each workout. Using MyZone technology, members can view their intensity level via in-studio display screens displaying their individual heart rate using a simple color coding system.

“Group training programs are increasingly popular because they offer two things all members want: better value for their membership investment and more attention, which yields better results,” said Liberty Harper, who will own and operate the area’s first studio. “Quite simply, group training is more affordable than personal one-on-one training, yet has far greater service levels than a 24-hour or ‘big box’ gym.”

Aside from being a health enthusiast and daily gym goer herself, Harper already has considerable experience in the female fitness sector and says she’s drawing on that experience to introduce the EnVie franchise to San Diego.

Harper started in the women’s fitness business in 1998 at the age of 18. Her and her parents opened two Curves locations in San Diego, the brand’s first two locations in California. Shortly after, she founded Liberty Fitness and, with financing from her parents, grew and sold it to a private equity firm in 2004. The chain had 60 locations in 18 states at its peak.

Harper’s San Diego studio will be EnVie’s third location to open since the launch of the chain’s U.S. expansion plans last year. The other two studios are located in Dallas and Phoenix.
