February 07, 2020 // Franchising.com // Premier Inn owner Whitbread today announces it is strengthening its presence in Scotland - making it easier than ever for people to enjoy all the wonders the country has to offer affordably.
The hotel operator announces it will be opening five new hotels in Scotland during 2020, including a new super-sized 249-bed hotel in Glasgow’s St Enoch Square and a 136-bed hotel on Edinburgh’s world-famous Princes Street.
Altogether it is on course to open 735 new beds this year – a mixture of the five new hotels and extensions. The openings represent an investment of over £70 million, and will create an estimated 200 new jobs.
The new openings also include a 60-bed hotel in Aviemore, a town in the Cairngorms National Park popular with people wanting to enjoy spectacular Highlands scenery. Openings also include an 85-bed hotel in Thurso, set to become Premier Inn’s most Northerly in the UK to date.

Premier Inn is opening 37 hotels during the course of the calendar year UK-wide, comprising around 4,000 rooms.
Perhaps no-where will benefit more keenly from the job creation than more rural communities, many of which are traditionally associated with more limited year-round employment opportunities. When Premier Inn opens in a new location, up to 80 per cent of new jobs go to former NEETS (people not previously in education, employment or training).
