The company is owned and operated by Augustine Attah, a certified phlebotomist who has spent the majority of his professional career working in and around San Jose’s most prestigious medical facilities. After helping his late father navigate his own aging journey, Attah knew that the home care industry was an area where he could use his professional experience to do the most good for his community.
Headquartered in Milpitas, Attah and his team of compassionate caregivers will assist residents throughout Northern San Jose and Milpitas with a wide variety of non-medical, in-home care services, from companion care to personal care and respite care.
Working in San Jose’s medical community allowed Attah to notice the growing need for these services in the area, particularly among Baby Boomers. U.S. Census statistics show that 10,000 Baby Boomers are turning 65 every day and that by 2030, there will be more than 70 million people over 65. According to the AARP, over 80% of this demographic reports wanting to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
After attending Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Attah went straight to work in the South Bay’s medical community as a Certified Phlebotomist II. As a phlebotomist, Attah was tasked with collecting and analyzing samples from patients recovering from a wide array of debilitating illnesses and conditions. Although Attah took joy in identifying the causes of patients’ discomfort, his real source of passion was the recovery part of the process.
Attah knew that in the home care industry, helping with recovery could be a much more integral part of his day-to-day schedule; however, it wasn’t until he helped his own father age-in-place that he decided to take the leap and change careers. Attah’s father lived to be 115 years old, and Attah was a critical part of his centenary years. The time he spent watching his father progress in both age and wisdom gave him a genuine appreciation for helping older people, specifically, and that ultimately led him towards home care.
“In my family, longevity in life is a normal thing, and it’s helped me understand the value in aging comfortably and independently,” said Attah. “Being part of a family or team that can enhance quality of life in those later years is incredibly fulfilling. When I looked into the home care industry, I realized that it would be the perfect opportunity for me to continue helping people get the care they need and the comfort they deserve.”
California’s greater Bay Area is home to a significant blended population, including many older residents or individuals living with disabilities or chronic conditions. Many of these residents often need to rely on caregivers for additional assistance cooking, shopping, running errands, doing light housekeeping or going for walks. Some even require personal care, such as help with bathing, dressing or using the toilet.
“Throughout my career, my actions have spoken for themselves when it comes to the type of care I strive to provide,” said Attah. “I try to put myself in my patients’ shoes to understand the discomfort, and sometimes, the fear, they may be experiencing when they look for help. Knowing that, I always provide as much time, love, and care as possible to every person I help. Now, in home care, I fully plan to continue going that extra mile and leading with a loving heart.”
