Following his graduation from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Smith initially built a career in insurance. However, after 14 years in the industry, Smith realized he preferred face-to-face, hands-on work that he couldn’t find behind a desk. This led him to the hearing healthcare field, where he has spent more than 15 years helping older adults with hearing aid assessments, speech recognition, auditory therapy, and instrument fitting. Today, Smith owns and operates his own hearing healthcare business.

Smith is well-connected to his community through his South Chicago roots, his work as a local preacher, and his involvement with a local service fraternity that coordinates philanthropic efforts throughout the Tinley Park area. As a graduate of Kenwood Academy High School, Smith has grown up with many of the families he now works with and has firsthand experience watching his hometown communities evolve.
