Maui Wowi Spreads the Tastes of the Islands to the East Coast

Maui Wowi grants U.S. veteran his first franchise agreement with plans to open up to three units serving fresh fruit smoothies and Hawaiian coffees.

February 05, 2014 // Franchising.com // Greenwood Village, CO - Maui Wowi Hawaiian, the global franchise company specializing in prestigious Hawaiian grown coffees and blended fresh fruit smoothies, has awarded a deserving U.S. veteran his first franchise agreement that will expand the tropical themed beverage company in the state of Virginia. Jorge Ruiz-Bonet will join a growing number of Maui Wowi franchise owners on the East Coast and plans to build the business throughout his community.

Originally from Puerto Rico, Ruiz-Bonet spent eight years in the military serving in the U.S. Army. He later received a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and has been working as a financial analyst for the federal government for the past 13 years. He and his wife decided together that it was time to invest in their family's future and wanted to own a business in which they could involve their children. In addition, they were in search of a flexible business that complimented their current jobs; allowing them to do both.

"We were looking for something we could both be passionate about while being able to involve the kids in the business," says Ruiz-Bonet. "Maui Wowi is a perfect business/lifestyle match for me and my family because of the flexibility it provides."

The opportunity to set the foundation for his children to learn the processes of business ownership and introduce them to it first-hand was at the top of his list. The healthier lifestyle promoted through quality products, as well as the company's appeal to families and overall fun nature of the Maui Wowi concept fit well with their personalities.

Ruiz-Bonet has chosen to take advantage of the scalability of the business and will begin with the mobile Ka'anapali Cart, which is fully transportable to any event, venue, festival, or fair. "When I first looked at the Ka'anapali Cart I realized that this business can take us where we want to be 10 years from now. The cart is a true vision of beauty and performance, it is the Cadillac of event models," he says.

With the goal of building a strong customer following, Ruiz-Bonet plans to present his new business to large crowds at various events throughout the community. As he plans for the future, he will work towards acquiring additional carts to increase his bandwidth and ultimately secure a fixed retail location. Ruiz-Bonet will attend a week long hands-on training session at the Maui Wowi headquarters that will prepare him for a successful launch and start of his new business.
