PLATTSBURGH, N.Y., Feb. 24, 2012 // PRNewswire // -- The Sporn Company announced today that it has assumed ownership of the Dickey's Barbecue Pit franchise located on Smithfield Boulevard.
The Texas based barbecue chain opened in early January and experienced an immediate strong response from the community to its barbecue offering with early sales reports surpassing expectations. While sales exceeded expectations, management issues forced the store to close.
"We believe the on-going premise that there is a strong desire for quality barbecue," said The Sporn Company owner Perry Sporn. "The restaurant's strong early reception in Plattsburgh only confirms that people want a quality barbecue experience."
Veteran local restaurateur Scott Wolinsky has been brought on as both co-owner and general manager for the Perrywinkle's Plaza location.
"Scott is the ideal person to help us re-open Dickey's. His nearly 10 years of experience managing Applebee's provides us with someone with extensive training in running a successful local franchise restaurant," said Sporn.
A mid-March target date has been set for the re-opening.
Dickey's Barbecue Pit is the largest quick-serve barbecue chain in the country.
Texas-based Dickey's Barbecue Pit opened in 1941 and began franchising in 1994. Dickey's Barbecue Pit is well-known for their hot pit-smoked signature meats, complimentary ice cream and the big yellow cups.
The original Dallas location is still open for business and Dickey's Barbecue Pit is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family.
