Meet Albano Mahilaj | Right at Home Owner in Cleveland, OH

Albano Mahilaj spent more than a decade in the corporate world, working in real estate and finance. As he climbed the corporate ladder, he knew he wanted to be a business owner and continued to feel unfulfilled in his career.

Aspiring for professional independence, Albano and his wife began researching opportunities across several industries. Knowing that he wanted to make an impact in his community, home care stuck with him. After discovering Right at Home and speaking with the Franchise Development team, he knew he had found the perfect business opportunity.

“Right at Home was the only company that I interviewed with in the home care world. I didn’t have to interview with anybody else.”

Why Right at Home?

Albano chose Right at Home because of the messaging from owners and corporate staff. “The big thing,” says Albano, “was the consistent message. It didn’t matter if I talked to the franchise development team on day one. Or if I talked to 20 owners on the phone.”

After speaking with dozens of current Right at Home franchisees by phone, he felt confident in his decision. Backed by support from the surrounding owners and the corporate team, he felt that he had been given all the tools he needed to succeed.

“Not only does Right at Home give you the formula,” says Albano, “but there is someone there with you from the beginning - either your Right Start coach, or the coach that you have moving forward. They’re always there, not only for questions, but also to tell you if you’re not doing something the right way.”

Throughout his ownership process, Albano has utilized the tools provided to him, allowing him to develop a thriving business in Cleveland, OH. He now participates in Performance Groups, an incredibly valuable tool. This is a space where owners can discuss business challenges and hold each other accountable.

Advice for Prospective Franchisees

For prospective franchise owners, Albano emphasizes the importance of doing it for the right reasons. “If you’re in it for the money, you’re going to make money. But,” he says, “if you’re only in it for the money, you are going to suffer.”

Owning an in-home care company is hard work. For owners like Albano, this effort is worth the sacrifice. He places himself front and center as the face of his franchise, visiting hospitals and stopping to have coffee with clients.

“I want them to know that the owner of the business is invested in the care of the people, and it’s not a simple collection agency,” says Albano. “I care for everybody that we are serving.”
