West Wing To Go Left Wing November 4, KFC Fans Predict

In a Vote to Benefit Colonel's Scholars Charity, Americans Favored Blue Left Wing T-Shirts Over Red "Right Wing" And White "Tastes the Same to Me" T's

October 21, 2008 // Franchising.com // Louisville, KY – America has spoken. According to the latest polling numbers – er, sales figures of KFC political T's – more than 41 percent of Americans who purchased a KFC Political T bought a "Left Wing" T-shirt, while roughly 29 percent bought a "Right Wing" T-shirt and 30 percent leaned toward undecided by choosing a "Left Wing, Right Wing: Tastes the Same to Me" T.

Along with providing a quirky presidential prognostication, T-shirt sales benefit Colonel's Scholars, a charity program providing college students nationwide with much needed scholarship dollars.

To remain unbiased, KFC sold the T-shirts on www.KFC.com, as well as in boutiques in each presidential candidate's home states: Akira in Chicago; Divaz Boutique in Tempe, Ariz.; and Grand Central Clothing in Tucson, Ariz. Since August, Americans have bought hundreds of the shirts.

"While neither candidate should count his chickens before they hatch, our informal, non-scientific poll indicates there may be a left-wing swing in the Oval Office," said Javier Benito, executive vice president of marketing and food innovation for KFC. "Most importantly though, every KFC Political T sold will benefit a great cause and help send deserving students to college."

This fall, through the Colonel's Scholars program, 100 deserving students received up to $20,000 over the next four years to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited public university within his or her home state. All scholarships were awarded based on the impact students had on their schools and communities and their financial need.

The race for the White House may still be too close to call, but the KFC "polling place" remains open. Americans can still buy T-shirts, show support for their favorite "wings" and help charity at the same time.
