IFA Promotes French To Svp Of Government Relations & Public Policy

August 04, 2010 // Franchising.com // WASHINGTON — International Franchise Association President and CEO Steve Caldeira today announced the promotion of David French, currently IFA vice president of Government Relations, to Senior Vice President Government Relations & Public Policy.

"This promotion reflects the many contributions that David continues to make to position the IFA and the franchise industry among policy makers in Washington, D.C. and across the U.S.," Caldeira said. "This new position also reflects the increasing and steadfast commitment by the IFA Board of Directors to educate members of Congress and Administration officials about the economic importance of franchising."

Since leaving Capitol Hill in 1998, David has played a leading role in the most important legislative battles affecting the business community over that time, including the passage of major tax relief measures in 2001and 2003, as well as the historic repeal of the Clinton-era OSHA ergonomics regulation in 2001. In addition, he has led the sustained growth of the IFA political action committee, FranPAC, over the past several years. David currently serves as the lobbying co-chair of the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace, which has been organized to protect the use of the private ballot in union recognition elections.

Prior to joining IFA in March, 2006, David led the government relations programs at the International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) and Food Distributors International (FDI) for five years. David served five years as senior legislative assistant for Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, with responsibility for a wide range of business and trade issues. As the Senator's agriculture policy advisor during the 1996 Farm Bill debate, David helped to direct efforts for reform of federal farm programs supporting such crops as peanuts and sugar. Other Capitol Hill stops include the House Select Committee on Aging and the office of New Jersey Congressman Matt Rinaldo.
