Elements Therapeutic Massage of Middleton, Mass., Celebrates Fourth Anniversary

Local entrepreneur Steve Stabile opened one of the very first franchise locations and continues to set the bar for one of the fastest-growing chains in America.

January 24, 2011 // Franchising.com // HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – This month, Elements Therapeutic Massage at 92 South Main Street in Middleton, Mass. is celebrating its fourth anniversary and an incredible success story that continues to defy the economy.

Franchise owner and local entrepreneur Steve Stabile says that therapeutic massage has been growing in demand since he first opened his doors in January of 2007. And his business has become a shining example for dozens of Elements studios that have followed across the growing national chain.

Elements Therapeutic Massage, which was named one of the Fastest-Growing Franchises in America by Franchise Times Magazine in 2010, had just started franchising when Stabile wanted to be the first franchisee to sign up four years ago and bring the business to Massachusetts. Stabile had owned several local Fitness Together personal training franchise studios when the parent company, headquartered in Colorado, launched its second concept, Elements. Seeing the opportunity, he introduced Elements Therapeutic Massage to Middleton and also became the area director to build the franchise to multiple locations in the region. That started a chain reaction and helped set the pace for a changing industry, a changing perception about massage, and a supply and demand business that was about to explode with opportunity.

The Middleton studio was the very first franchised location to open outside of Colorado where the company's founder, Michele Merhib, established her studios as the model for the business. Today, there are 76 Elements Therapeutic Massage studios in 23 states making massage therapy available and affordable to a growing audience. One of the strongest concentrations for the brand is in Massachusetts, with 14 studios and two more in development, thanks in part to the pioneering success of the Middleton location over the years and Stabile's work as the area director to grow and mentor fellow franchisees.

With record client memberships and a team of 20 massage therapists, the business shows no signs of slowing down.

"Business is booming," Stabile says, having just completed a record-breaking holiday season. His gift card sales and new-client memberships were up 25% over 2009. And Massachusetts continues to lead the nation for the chain, where average monthly revenues at Elements studios were up 42% in the first half of 2010 over the same period the previous year.*

"It's that therapeutic approach that has made Elements thrive with loyal clients who want the best," Stabile says about his studio and his team.

Today, clients look at massage the way they view fitness and nutrition for an overall healthy lifestyle. Regular massage sessions with reputable certified massage therapists at Elements have elevated the sector, helping people battle stress, address tired muscles and seek a holistic approach to feeling better.

For Stabile, this fourth anniversary isn't just about his studio. It's about the thousands of clients in his community that Elements has served. It's about the many franchisees across the Elements network that have joined since then to build a national name for the company. It's about flourishing in a challenging economy to run a healthy business and to serve the health and wellness of the greater society.
