Positive Jobs Numbers Would Be Even Higher With Pro-growth Policies

November 04, 2011 // Franchising.com // WASHINGTON - Steve Caldeira, President & CEO of the International Franchise Association (IFA), the largest trade group representing more than 825,000 franchise small businesses across 300 business lines supporting nearly 18 million jobs, released the following statement following the October U.S. Department of Labor unemployment report showing 80,000 jobs were created and the unemployment rate falling to a 9.0 percent.

"Monthly job growth is certainly welcome news for franchise businesses, but there are still significant long-term challenges to the industry reaching its full potential for growth, including ongoing gaps in credit access necessary to finance new franchise establishments and a strong desire for tax reform at the corporate and individual level."

"Further, with unemployment of veterans still well-above the national average, the franchise industry will do its part in honor of Veterans Day, announcing a new hiring and recruitment campaign to offer returning veterans career paths in franchising, including increased employment opportunities and incentives for ownership of franchise businesses."

IFA's latest Business Leader Outlook Survey shows a majority of franchise business leaders continue to expect conditions to stay the same or worsen since the previous survey conducted in March. In the most recent data, only 47.3 percent said they expect their business to do better this year as compared to last year, down from 54.9 percent in March.
