Fast-growing Chain Of Sandwich Shops Makes Its Debut In Homewood

(Friday, April 07, 2006) - Firehouse Subs has opened its first location in Homewood. The restaurant chain offers submarine sandwiches, salads and chili, among other items, and its buildings are designed with a fire-station theme.
Franchise owner David Conklin also serves as area representative for the chain. He oversees 12 locations in central and northern Alabama. The Homewood store is the first for Conklin, who anticipates opening 24 additional restaurants in the territory over the next five years.
The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Founded more than 12 years ago by firefighters Robin and Chris Sorensen in Jacksonville, Fla., Firehouse Subs operates 236 restaurants in 11 states. Restaurant Business Magazine recently dubbed it the 10th fastest-growing chain nationwide.
