GNC Produces Pre-paid Calling Cards for Military's Wounded, So Recovering Soldiers Can Call Families

PITTSBURGH, May 25 // PRNewswire // -- As part of its continued dedication to healthy living, GNC has signed on to help wounded American soldiers regaining good health in military hospitals.

The GNC Calling Card Program got underway in April, when the company sent more than 10,000 50-minute pre-paid calling cards to American servicemen hospitalized away from home. The calling cards, slated to arrive in plenty of time for Memorial Day, are GNC's way of thanking the servicemen for all their hard work.

The company sent the calling cards to:

-- Congressional delegates, for distribution to wounded soldiers
recovering in overseas military hospitals
-- Patients at the Minneapolis Polytrauma Center and the Augusta (Georgia)
Polytrauma Center, which work with military veterans facing extensive
recuperation after injury in the Middle East
-- Patients at the Womack Army Medical Center at Ft. Bragg, North
Carolina, which focuses on healthcare for the "total army family"
-- Patients at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a military transport
hospital in Germany that's often the first stop for American casualties
leaving conflict in the Middle East
-- Patients aboard two Navy hospital ships
-- Patients at several other military hospitals across the country

"This Memorial Day and always, GNC is grateful for the tremendous sacrifices our troops have made," said Tom Dowd, executive vice president at the company's Pittsburgh headquarters. "We know service members spend a lot of time away from their friends and families, so as a token of our appreciation, we wanted to make it easier for them to stay connected with their loved ones."

"To us, 'living well' goes beyond being healthy," Dowd said. "It also means giving back to our communities and doing something extra for our troops who have gone above and beyond for us."
