Rent-A-Wreck Opens in Presque Isle, Maine.

June 15, 2007 // Franchising.com // Laurel, MD – John Harvell is pleased to announce the opening of his new business, Rent-A-Wreck- the rent-a-car company with the funny name that's known for serious savings. Located at 64 Industrial Street in Presque Isle, the new Rent-A-Wreck is now open for business. Although John has already started renting cars, he's still getting his shop ready for the grand opening on June 28 th 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will include food, drinks, and an open house where the customers can check out the facilities, the cars and meet-and-greet the staff.

So far John's new fleet is exceeding twenty cars and he's currently working on collecting box trucks, moving trucks and vans to rent out to local colleges and business communities. "And no, the cars aren't really wrecked!" says John, "It's just a funny name we want folks around here to remember when they need to rent a good, clean and inexpensive car!"

John arrived at Rent-A-Wreck with a diverse background involving everything from managerial duties to insurance sales to pharmaceuticals. He took a job in Enterprise Rent-A-Car immediately after graduating from Elon University. One and a half years later he moved on to other things but has always remembered how much he enjoyed the managing aspect of the business. When his father in law, North Country Auto's Randy Norsworthy purchased Rent-A-Wreck as an add-on business to the three dealerships he already owns, it was an opportunity for John to take on the responsibilities he has missed.

In addition to that, John says "I'm just excited to bring business to this up and coming county. I want to see it grow." As for his business, "We have our Presque Isle location, our Houlton location located at 34 Military Street, our soon to be on-site location at Northern Maine Regional Airport, and we are in discussions for a location in Fort Kent. By providing numerous outlets for the people of Aroostook County we are better able to work with the community, its businesses and their demands. I felt that there was a need for a neighborhood car rental agency that could deliver good, clean, and reliable transportation to the whole county, " says John, "We can offer our customers the value of a used vehicle that's been maintained well, and give them the high quality customer service that can only come from a locally owned business that cares about their community," he continued.

Rent-A-Wreck of Presque Isle marks the 4 th Rent-A-Wreck location in Maine for the 30-something company. A young southern California entrepreneur pioneered the concept of renting "clunkers", used cars for less than the competition. The idea gained widespread popularity as celebrities such as Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, Bob Newhart, Ringo Starr and three James Bonds have rented the older cars in order to preserve their anonymity on Hollywood's star struck streets. Today, Rent-A-Wreck franchise owners like John Harvell rent newer model cars, trucks, sport utilities and vans.
