Woodcraft Supply Hires New Magazine Editor

Jim Harrold named editor-in chief of Woodcraft Magazine

July 05, 2007 // Franchising.com // PARKERSBURG, WV – Woodcraft Supply, LLC announced today it has hired Jim Harrold, one of the woodworking industry's most experienced editors, to become editor-in-chief of Woodcraft Magazine.

After completing an M.A. in English at the University of Iowa, and a M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Wichita State University, Harrold joined Meredith Corporation in 1980 where he worked on a series of step-by-step Better Homes & Gardens books. In 1984, he became the editor of two newsstand publications, Home Plan Ideas and Do-It-Yourself. At this point, his boss Larry Clayton began working on a concept for a woodworking magazine named WOOD and involved Harrold in planning discussions. In 1987, Harrold was brought over to serve as the managing editor of Weekend Woodworking Projects, a spin off subscription publication that he took from 30,000 subscribers to 210,000.

In 1990, Jim moved over to WOOD Magazine to serve as its managing editor. Here, he edited copy, worked up production schedules, wrote stories and the magazine's covers while managing a staff of writers. He was named executive editor in 2001 where he worked until being hired by Woodcraft.
