Bear Stearns Further Expands Its Global Equities Division in Tokyo and Hong Kong
TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. today announced that it has made 10 new hires over the last few months in the Global Equities Division across Hong Kong and Tokyo. Six employees have joined Equities Trading, two Structured Equity Sales and another two employees are new to Equity Capital Markets. These latest appointments are part of Bear Stearns' overall growth strategy in Asia.
"These hires further strengthen our global equities franchise in Asia and give us the ability to develop and deliver more of the products and services that clients want," said Yuji Sugiura, Head of Structured Equity Sales Japan. Kin Cheung, Head of Trading in Japan and Asia for the Global Equities Division added, "These new hires have a wealth of industry experience that is valuable to both our clients and the firm as we continue to broaden our business."
In Tokyo, Atsushi Oshima and Takayuki Sannomiya joined Equity Capital Markets as managing directors responsible for corporate equity and equity-related transactions including equity finance and equity solutions. Mr. Sannomiya will also focus on strengthening and broadening client relationships. Prior to Bear Stearns, Mr. Sannomiya was Director of Financial Markets Asia at WestLB AG in Tokyo and focused on derivative sales. Mr. Oshima was Director of Japan Equity Capital Markets at Credit Suisse Securities in Tokyo. While there, he originated, structured and executed secondary stock related transactions of structured and convertible products.
Toru Imai and Kyoko Watanabe joined Structured Equity Sales as vice presidents. Mr. Imai and Ms. Watanabe have been hired to enhance the firm's structured equity sales capabilities through third party distribution of structured equity products. Prior to Bear Stearns, Mr. Imai was with Shinko Securities for 10 years where he structured equity derivatives products. Ms. Watanabe was a derivatives sales person at Credit Suisse for three years. The above four hires report to Yuji Sugiura.
Also in Tokyo, Mintcho Petkov, a vice president, joined exotic trading from Lehman Brothers where he was a Yen fixed income derivatives trader.
In Hong Kong, Jack Tong, Bryan Chan, Su Fen Sim and Jae Kim joined Equities Trading as managing directors. Mr. Tong and Mr. Chan work in derivatives trading, Ms. Sim works in program trading and Mr. Kim works in basket trading with his associate, Jazreel Cheng, also a new hire.
Previously, Mr. Tong was a Corporate Director at ABN Amro in Hong Kong as a volatility trader. Mr. Chan was with Credit Suisse Securities as a Vice President in volatility trading. Ms. Sim was an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Asia where she spent 12 years in a variety of roles including senior trader in program trading. Mr. Kim was Director of the Global Equity Proprietary Trading Group at Deutsche Bank Securities in New York as a proprietary trader. Ms. Cheng was a proprietary trader at RBC Capital Markets, Royal Bank of Canada in Hong Kong.
These 10 appointments are the latest in a string of recent hires for Bear Stearns in Asia. In June, five new employees were named in global equity sales in Hong Kong. Two equity research analysts also joined the firm in Hong Kong to broaden Asian equity research.
