Handyman Matters Franchisees Give Back to Seniors

Handyman Matters Offers Senior Citizens Free Services

LAKEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Having an extra hand to fix a broken light may not seem like much to the average person, but to those dealing with the difficulties of old age, it can make a world of difference. This month, franchisees of Handyman Matters are lending senior citizens that extra hand. In honor of Senior Citizens Day, each franchisee will provide seniors with two hours of free handy work services.

The company-wide volunteering effort is a way to give back to a valued group of customers, said Colette Bell, CEO of Handyman Matters Franchise Company corporate offices.

"Senior citizens are an integral part of a community," Bell said. "Many of them spend their lives contributing their knowledge and experience to others. We want to recognize their importance in the community by giving back to them."

According to Bell, volunteer organizations, including local church and community groups, will also be assisting in the company effort. Free services could include minor home repairs--like fixing a drippy faucet, sticking door, or tripping hazard--to senior home modifications--such as handrails, motion-detector lights, non-skid flooring and wheelchair ramps. The idea, Bell said, is to help seniors maintain their property and independent lifestyle.

"One of the founding principles of our company is to give back to the community," said Bell. "Maintaining an independent lifestyle is becoming increasingly difficult for seniors, and some feel like they have no other choice but to move. We aim to help our senior customers maintain their independence and remain in their homes for as long as they desire."

Handyman Matters is currently seeking seniors who are in need of home repair services. According to Bell, Handyman Matters is also planning a $15,000 special-needs accessible bathroom remodel giveaway in January of 2008. The franchise will be taking nominations for seniors nationwide, who are in need of this service. Handyman Matters will be taking nominations beginning this September. The company offers over 1,162 residential and commercial services along with a commitment to integrity and customer-friendly service.
