Communities Benefit as Franchises Give Back to Local and National Charities

NiteLites of Jacksonville, the Architectural and Landscape Lighting Professionals, recently sponsored two local fundraising events that support youth sports. The 1st Annual "Strike for a Purpose" Charity Bowling event is organized by the Young Christians in Action Youth Sports (YCAYS) Parents Organization. The purpose of the event is to benefit underprivileged youth in the community who want to play competitive sports.

YCAYS is a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting sports opportunities that are an integral part of each participant's learning experience. This is done with the belief that every child should be able to participate in the program of his or her choice regardless of race, religion, creed, sex, ability, or financial status. This spirit is fostered in an environment where everyone has a chance to play and learn, regardless of skill or financial means. YCAYS' long-term goal
is to give its participants positive life-long memories of their youth sports experience.

The second fundraiser was the 14th Annual Friends of Fletcher Golf tournament, which is held to raise funds for the men's and women's golf teams of Fletcher High School. The funds will be used to help defray the cost of equipment, clothing and travel within the state of Florida.

Franchises throughout the U.S. have a measurable impact on local and national charitable organizations. NiteLites has been active at the corporate level by supporting youth sports teams, local orphanages, Lance Armstrong's Live Strong Campaign, Katrina Relief Fund, and the Ohio vs. USA High School Football Challenge. NiteLites franchisees have also actively supported charities in their communities such as Meals on Wheels, Caring for Children, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis, the Alzheimer's Association, Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Shelter for Abused Women, the Humane Society, and local youth soccer, football, wrestling, and baseball programs to name a few.

The International Franchise Association (IFA) recognized that franchising brings big-business know-how to the small business owner. Thus, no matter how large the franchise system is, it can have a positive impact at the local level through its franchisees. Local owners of McDonald's, Cold Stone Creamery, Ben and Jerry's, and countless others continue to dramatically impact their communities throughout the U.S. with their phenomenal charitable generosity including significant contributions of time, products, and of course financial commitments.

NiteLites of Jacksonville, operated by Mr. Trevor Rosendahl, has been active in their support of worthwhile local projects. Mr. Rosendahl said that he feels businesses operating in a community have a responsibility to do their part to ensure that positive opportunities are presented to the youth of that community. Mr. Rosendahl also explained, "Supporting youth programs, just makes sense. It has been said for years, 'These kids are our future.' And of course this is true. The time to invest in them (children), is now."
