ABC-TV's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" to Feature SGO Designer Glass

October 04, 2007 // Franchising.com // Orange, CA – SGO Designer Glass was called upon by the producers of the popular ABC-TV's primetime show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" to create over 150 square feet of designer glass for a Cheyenne, WY home. The existing home, which was poisoned by radon, was completely demolished and a new home constructed in just 7 days.

Mike Cassidy, President and CEO of SGO Designer Glass, said "The project was a huge undertaking. SGO fabricated over 100 sf of Stained Glass Overlay for the entryway and another 50 sf for the great room. We worked closely with the EMHE designers to create an extraordinary design for the entryway with colors that would work with both the interior and exterior of the house. When the entryway design was complete we started on the designs for the great room.

The art glass panels for the great room are unique. The design had to compliment the entryway and match the curtain and paint colors in the room itself. Three large panels were created and installed 4" off the wall with lighting above. The pieces are absolutely magnificent and show how much more you can do with art glass than the standard window or hanging pieces"

"When EMHE contacted us to work on this project we immediately knew with the size of the art glass pieces needed and the quick turn around the best application would be the Stained Glass Overlay.", said Mike Cassidy. Stained Glass Overlay provides the handmade elegance and timeless beauty of traditional art glass – without the problems historically associated with cut glass construction. "One of the windows was over 42 sf and weighed over 300 pounds when complete. We had to create these panels in overlay, which is dubbed 'Stained Glass for the 21st Century'. If we created these in the traditional cut glass method the panels could not have fit in the existing window framing, there would have been design limitations and the panels would weigh much more than 300 pounds. The limitations are few when working with the overlay process."

The episode, which takes place in Cheyenne, WY, is slated to air on November 4. "I am so excited for the viewers to see the work that we did for this project and we hope that this art glass brings endless years of beauty to this family" said Grant Williamson, Director of Franchise Support for SGO Designer Glass.
