Taco Del Mar Surfs into New York State

Master Developer Larry Jasenski Announces Plans to Bring Hot Quick Casual Chain to Albany, Syracuse, Rochester and Beyond

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Schenectady-based developer and Multi Unit - Subway restaurant owner Larry Jasenski announced plans to bring the rapidly expanding, Baja-inspired restaurant concept, Taco Del Mar to a large footprint of New York state that calls for nearly 170 locations in 10 years. The quick casual chain, known for its "mondo burritos" and wholesome made-fresh-to-order Mexican food, will surf into New York state's restaurant landscape with nothing else quite like it.

"Taco Del Mar offers great, fast Mexican and quick, casual dining in a format very similar to Subway offering a tremendous value for the quality and portions," Jasenski said, president of TDM Development LLC, area Master Developer. "There was a huge opportunity for growth with Taco Del Mar and as we begin franchising it's a complement to existing franchise operators and new restaurateurs looking for something totally different yet relatively easy to own and operate."

Jasenski will take his Taco Del Mar tidal wave in the near six-month term to Albany, Colonie, Latham, Clifton Park, Saratoga, Wilton, and — fittingly — Delmar. His plan to open 170 stores in the next 10 years encompasses a very large territory stretching from the Canadian border south to Rockland County in lower New York. It also includes Burlington, Vt., parts of New Hampshire, The Berkshires (Mass.) across New York west to Syracuse, Rochester, and Utica.

Taco Del Mar features signature Mondo burritos showcasing slow-cooked and marinated meats such as braised chicken, carne asada steak and seasoned pork; platters; tacos; salads; kids' meals and vegetarian/vegan offerings. All of its food incorporates high quality ingredients in a made-to-order presentation. The store decor sets the "beach" mood with beach-themed murals, thatched palapas, mounted sailfish, long board tabletops and lively background music. There are currently more than 275 Taco Del Mar units across North America.

Jasenski's development team includes Coliseum Development and A.E. Rossi Builders for construction, Vanguard/Fine Realty Group, The Ikon Realty Group, and Pyramid Brokerage for commercial real estate, and architects Design Logics in Albany. He is actively screening potential franchisees and locations.

The quick casual restaurant chain was co-founded in Seattle in 1992 by brothers James and John Schmidt. Inspired by southern Baja, Mexico and coastal beach shacks that serve burritos and tacos, Taco Del Mar remains independent, unlike many "Mexi-fresh" restaurant concepts that are big burger owned.
