Camp Bow Wow(R) Hits The Big Five-oh!

November 22, 2007 // Franchising.com // Boulder, CO. – Camp Bow Wow's bark got bigger today with the opening of its 50th and newest doggy day and overnight camp.

Franchisees Nick and April Netley's camp in Plymouth, Minn., will feature the same fun-filled atmosphere and dog-focused amenities that have made the first 49 camps so popular among pups and the people who love them.

Camps boast All Day Play in indoor/outdoor play yards, Web-based Camper Cams so pup parents can check up on their furry kids during the day and the highest levels of fun and safety, all of which have made Boulder-based Camp Bow Wow the nation's Premier Doggy Day and Overnight Camp®.

Campers are separated into play groups by size and temperament. The pups make fast friends within those groups and run with the pack to work off all their doggy energy, then head home tired and content at the end of the day.

Overnight campers bunk down in cabins complete with cots, fleece blankets and frozen campfire treats, and are lulled to sleep by the strains of classical music.

Founder and CEO Heidi Flammang opened the first Camp Bow Wow in Denver in 2000, determined to create an atmosphere that's all about the dogs. A second location, in Broomfield, Colorado, came shortly afterward, and the company started franchising in 2003.

The time was ripe for the concept, as Americans continued to spend more on the pets who have increasingly become furry family members. U.S. consumers spent $38.5 billion on their pets last year, including $2.7 billion on services including boarding and day care, according to the American Pet Products Manufacturing Association. Nationally, doggy daycare has become a $500 million-a-year business.

"As we continue to grow, our camps remain focused on creating a fun, safe place for pups to play," Flammang said. "We love your dogs almost as much as you do, and it's that simple philosophy that's fueling our fast growth."
