Marvelous Market Moves into Arlington

November 30, 2007 // Franchising.com // - Washington, D.C—Marvelous Market, a local favorite known for its chef-crafted, all natural food and gourmet convenience store atmosphere recently signed a lease in Arlington, VA. Alex and Traci Topchy, a husband-wife duo, and long-time residents of Arlington, will open their first of three Marvelous Market stores at 888 North Quincy Street, in The Residences at Liberty Center, a new mixed-use development of residential, retail, and office space located in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington.

Liberty Center is a one million square foot mixed-use project that is currently being developed by The Shooshan Company, who in recent years, has worked mainly in the Ballston area. The Residences at Liberty Center is nearing completion and consists of 235 condominium homes amidst Class A office and retail space. With superb finishes, views, and first-class amenities, Liberty Center is becoming what it always promised to be – the signature address in Arlington's Rosslyn/Ballston Corridor.

"This is an excellent area for our first Marvelous Market store," said Alex. "It has a steady flow of business and residential traffic—perfect for our demographic. Marvelous Market will be a great amenity to the area and will help bring a sense of community to the neighborhood."

The Ballston location is set to open in early Spring of next year. Marvelous Market plans additional locations throughout the Clarendon, Ballston and Virginia Square areas.

Ann McLean of Transwestern represented the couple, and John Asadoorian of Asadoorian Retail Solutions represented the landlord.

Often referred to as a "mini Whole Foods," Marvelous Market combines quality and convenience. Offering bottled wine, fresh baked breads, pastries, desserts, sandwiches and salads, every entrée is made fresh over night using only the finest ingredients. For expediency, Marvelous Market products are self-service items—customers do not have to wait for food to be cooked, assembled and packaged. Virtually all of the products are pre-wrapped and specifically designed for easy accessibility.

Marvelous Market currently has eight stores in the metro area and expects to grow to 50 plus units by 2008. This will be the second franchised location in the metro Washington DC area. The first opened on Capitol Hill in October 2006.
