January 14, 2008 // Franchising.com // Ontario,—Harshrd and Parag Patel have inked a multi-unit franchise agreement with the Firkin Group of Pubs, one of the largest and fastest growing English pub chains in North America. The father, son team will bring five pubs to North Carolina—the first is scheduled to open in Raleigh in winter 2008.

"When I was researching pub franchises, I was looking for a concept that had a solid business format and would be unique to Central North Carolina," says Parag Patel. "As soon as I came across the Firkin Group of Pubs I knew that they were a perfect fit."

The company currently has 11 open locations in seven states across the country and expects to have 1,000 pubs in development by 2010. Firkin sold multi-unit franchising deals in 10 states in 2007. Several new areas in development include Washington, Nevada, Iowa and Georgia.

About Firkin:

Stanley Adelson and Ian Fisher opened their first pub, Fox and Firkin, in Toronto in May 1987. It was the idea of a traditional English neighborhood pub – where people could enjoy good drink and food in good company – that quickly built a stable of regulars. Selections range from a variety of beverages and delicious meals including: traditional English pub fare like fish and chips, burgers, sandwiches, as well as a selection of entrée dishes such as Bangers and Mash, Shepherd's pie, salads and—of course—a wide assortment of draft beers on tap and in the bottle.
