Bakery-cafe chain continues reporting strong growth in 2007 fourth quarter and full-year comp sales

January 28, 2008 // Franchising.com // BURLINGTON, Vt. – Bruegger's Enterprises, Inc. today announced that fourth quarter revenue for comparable sales grew 4.5 percent at company locations and 3.7 percent system wide, capping 15 consecutive quarters of comparable restaurant sales growth for Bruegger's. For the 2007 fiscal year, same store sales increased 3.1 percent for the company and 2.5 percent for the system. Bruegger's gross sales reached $178 million system wide in 2007 compared with $164 million system wide for 2006.

"Many factors contributed to Bruegger's success in 2007," said Bruegger's Chief Executive Officer James J. Greco. "We opened 14 new bakeries and saw a steady climb in our weekend sales. The introduction of our Duos program option allowing guests to pair two menu choices--sandwich, salad or soup for one low price--as well as the new, delicious Signature Soups increased lunch traffic."

Greco added, "We are committed to top-notch training and retention programs and this has clearly led to improved guest service. Our guests continue to give us exceptional scores for all aspects of service. These new human resources initiatives earned Bruegger's a 2007 Spirit Award from Nation's Restaurant News and National Restaurant Association."

Bruegger's operates 268 bakery-cafes with a total of 159 company-owned units and 109 franchise-owned units. This year, growth plans call for the addition of 40 bakeries in both existing and new markets throughout the U.S. "We are pleased with our performance and believe it positions us well for the coming year," said Greco. The company celebrates its 25th anniversary in February.
