Valentines in Overdrive

February 06, 2008 // Franchising.com // PLANO, TX - Valentine's Day, the traditional celebration of love, is a race to the finish line for Cookies by Design shoppes nationwide. Known for their lavishly decorated cookie bouquets, planning for their biggest sales season of the year begins far in advance with new design concepts but nothing can prepare the shoppe owners with the formidable task of finding the additional help required to deliver what will can be up to 10 times their normal deliveries.

This year, Madison, WI shoppe owner Ann Kratofil formed an unusual partnership with a local limousine service. "We can go from 25 deliveries a day to more than 200 deliveries for Valentine's Day alone," says Kratofil. "We have worked with the limousine company over the past few Christmases but thought how wonderful it would be to have your sweetheart's delivery made in style!" She adds, "This year's 13-cookie rose bouquet almost needs a limo for delivery!"

Other shoppe owners recruit off-duty firemen who have the added advantage of knowing the local community and seldom getting lost. Some resort to arming friends and relatives with GPS devices, a Cookies by Design logo-shirt and a big smile.
