St. Petersburg Can Now Say Goodbye to Pet Waste, Thanks to Pet Butler

February 26, 2008 // Franchising.com // - ST. PETERSBURG, Florida – Pet owners in the St. Petersburg area who are weary of picking up pet waste now have a convenient and affordable service to take care of their dirty work. Pet Butler, the nation's leading pet waste cleanup service, is expanding to the St. Petersburg area. It is the company's 10th franchise in Florida.

Dan Vickers of St. Petersburg has stepped up to keep local yards and public spaces free of pet waste by opening the first St. Petersburg-area franchise of Pet Butler.

Texas-based Pet Butler provides professional pet waste cleanup and removal services for individual homeowners and their pets, as well as for multi-family communities and parks. The company proudly bills itself as "#1 in the '#2' business," and recently scooped its 40 millionth pile of poop.

Pet Butler charges a small per-visit fee to collect dog and cat waste, carry it away, and dispose of it properly. Whether in yards or in public spaces, accumulated domestic animal waste can ruin lawns and present a significant source of water pollution.

Vickers' Pet Butler operation will offer pickup services to St. Petersburg, Largo, Seminole, Pinellas Park, Kenneth City, St. Petersburg Beach, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach, Tierra Verde and Pass-a-Grille.

"This area is full of retirees," Vickers said of his service area. "Everyone in this area would rather spend their leisure time in the beautiful Florida sun, not cleaning up after their pets."

Previously, Vickers co-founded an air duct cleaning company in Atlanta, now one of the largest such companies in the U.S. He has also served as the vice president of manufacturing for an electronics manufacturing company, served in the Navy on a minesweeper in Vietnam, and worked in his family's construction company.

"My greatest joy in life is making people laugh. Lots of people think poop scooping is pretty funny, and I really enjoy that part of the Pet Butler business."

Vickers has a Border Collie named Buster, which he rescued from the pound, as he has other pets in the past. "It's the best place to find man's best friend," he says. As a pet owner, he understands the reluctance of most people to pick up what their animals leave behind in the yard, which led him to understand the value of the Pet Butler service.

Matt "Red" Boswell, CEO (Chief Excrement Officer) of Pet Butler, noted that the company is now leading the growth in the professional poop scooping market, with more than 90 franchises across the United States. In Florida, Pet Butler also has franchises in Hudson, Cape Coral, Port St. Lucie, Jacksonville, Panama City Beach, Sarasota, Orlando, and Tampa.
