Smoothie King Names Fletcher Chief Operating Officer

NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Smoothie King Franchises, Inc., the originator of the nutritional fruit-based smoothie, today announced that it has appointed Tom Fletcher to the position of Chief Operating Officer.

Fletcher will oversee all day-to-day operations for Smoothie King, reporting directly to Cindy Kuhnau, the company's Senior Executive Vice President and Steve Kuhnau, the company's President. Fletcher joined Smoothie King in October 2006 as Executive Vice President of Operations, with nearly 30 years in the food service industry.

"Tom's commitment and contributions to the organization since joining the Smoothie King team have been invaluable," said company co-founder Steve Kuhnau. "The company has experienced tremendous growth over the past few years, in terms of number of locations, new market entries and new products, and Tom has become an integral part of shepherding that growth. We are confident he will bring great leadership to this new position and continue to build the Smoothie King brand and support our aggressive growth strategy."

After several years of opening more than 50 franchised locations a year, Smoothie King expects to open more than 125 in 2008, including adding several to the 25 existing locations in South Korea.

Fletcher added, "I plan to focus on fortifying Smoothie King's role as leader in the smoothie industry, and to continue to support the brand's expansion in the United States, as well as in the international marketplace."

The appointment is effective immediately, and Fletcher will work out of Smoothie King's home office in New Orleans. Prior to joining Smoothie King, Fletcher worked for brands including Big Apple Bagels, Baskin-Robbins/Dunkin' Donuts, and KaleidoScoops.

To date, more than 200 million Smoothie King smoothies have been served at more than 500 locations in 32 states across the United States and in South Korea. Smoothie King is consistently ranked number one in its category and number 109 in the top 500 franchises by Entrepreneur Magazine, as well as ranked number 99 as a top global franchise.
