Wild Birds Unlimited Offers Scholarships to Attend Audubon Summer Camps

CARMEL, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wild Birds Unlimited is offering children scholarships to attend Audubon summer camps. Parents and caregivers should apply now to give their children the opportunity to attend one of these camps.

Wild Birds Unlimited scholarship eligibility is determined by each Audubon Center. For more information on details about general registration, camp programs and scholarships visit the Audubon website (www.audubon.org/educate/cw/index.php).

In cooperation with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Wild Birds Unlimited Pathways To Nature for Kids® initiative has granted the National Audubon Society $100,000 to be used for scholarships for young people to attend summer camps at Audubon Centers across the United States. With this grant, at least 200 underserved and underprivileged children will have the opportunity to connect with nature and learn more about their environment each year.

"Today's youth spend less time outside than any previous generation, depriving themselves of the emotional and physical benefits that come from having a bond with the natural world," said John Schaust, chief naturalist at Wild Birds Unlimited. "We believe the experience of attending an Audubon camp helps young people connect with nature, learn to respect it and hopefully create a desire to preserve it for future generations."

This is the second year that scholarships will be rewarded, and past recipients have shared their experiences at the summer camps.

"I like Audubon (camp) because of the fun and outdoors," said Gabe, a camper and scholarship recipient at the Randall Davey Audubon Center in New Mexico. "I would love to be a counselor next year; I would love to help out."

"I learned about many important things on the Audubon trips," said Darcy, a camper and scholarship recipient at the Audubon Arkansas Summer Academy. "I learned about diversity and that everything is different, like people are."
