BLIMPIE Celebrates 44th Birthday with Three Days of Free 6" Cold Sub Sandwiches

Rich History Honored with a Thank You to the Community

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In 1964, when the first BLIMPIE opened in Hoboken, N.J., the submarine sandwich phenomenon of today was something former owners Tony, Peter and Angelo only dreamed of. Named for the blimp-like appearance of the bread, it was the founders' intention to serve up sandwiches piled with meats sliced right before your eyes on freshly baked bread topped off with a bevy of condiments and dressings to satisfy any customer's taste.

On the shop's first day, the three friends sold more than $295 worth of sandwiches at prices ranging from 35 cents to 95 cents each. The immediate success of the restaurant was obvious on that opening day and continued steadily through the shop's first year. The three founders sold the first franchise to a friend of theirs in western New York for $600, later that year.

Today, there are nearly 1,300 shops throughout the states and BLIMPIE has evolved into a nationwide success story for independent business owners across the country. To celebrate this rich history, BLIMPIE shop owners across Atlanta and North Georgia are thanking the community with free 6" cold submarine sandwiches. On May 2, 3 and 4, all day long customers who purchase a 22-ounce drink will be given a free sub sandwich. There are more than 100 locations throughout Atlanta and Northern Georgia participating in the give-away (warm sandwiches not included in the give-away). Stores typically open at 11 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.
