Athletic Republic performance sports training names Tanya Porter Vice-President

U.S. Olympic Committee veteran adds 20+ years of performance technology experience to corporate leadership team

April 28, 2008 // Franchising.com // Fargo, ND.– Athletic Republic Chief Science and Technology Officer Steve Swanson announced today the appointment of Tanya Porter as Vice-President of Training and Technology. Porter, the former Department Head of Performance Technology for the USOC's Performance Services Division will assist Swanson with technology development while devoting much of her time to teaching trainers how to better utilize technology to help athletes improve their performance.

"It's unusual to find someone who combines computer science and sports training expertise, " said Swanson. "We're pleased to have found that combination in Tanya, plus she si a very accomplished athlete."

Swanson added: "I'm happy to have someone to work closely with to expand our technology capabilities throughout the Athletic Republic network. Tanya's appointment represents yet another corporate investment in the continued development of our scientific approach to performance sports training."

Among Porter's many accomplishments while at the USOC, the most notable included directing the Performance Technology discipline, with extensive integration in National Team programs for USA Softball, USA Hockey, USCKT-Whitewater Kayaking, USA Basketball, USA Water Polo, USA Curling, USA Skiing and USA Beach Volleyball. Her work with the USA Softball National Team scouting and video analysis project was a particular labor of love, given Tanya's 17 years of participation in the sport as both a player and coach, including being a member of the Canadian national championship team.

Hockey, too, is a passion of Tanya's and she remains an active team member of the Colorado Springs Silverwolves, In addition, Tanya knows what the other side of a whistle sounds like--having officiated basketball on all levels, from junior high school to international competition and professional leagues for 17 years.

With a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario, and a dual major in Computer Science and Sport Sciences, Porter is uniquely qualified to lead Athletic Republic's Training and Technology efforts.

Tanya lives in Colorado Springs with her husband and two children.
