Gold's Gym Strengthens Presence Worldwide with Record 16 Locations Opening in May 2008

Multi-Million, State-of-the-Art Gym Locations Set to Open Every Two Days Across International and Domestic Markets

May 19, 2008 // Franchising.com // Dallas, Texas – Despite slowing global economic conditions, the worlds $20 billion dollar-plus fitness industry continues to remain steady with growth and development. On the forefront of expansion is Gold's Gym, the most recognized name in fitness, announcing it will open a total of 16 franchise-owned locations during the month of May.

Worldwide areas of development include the United States (10 domestic locations in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Commerce, California, Jacksonville, Florida, Bismarck, North Dakota, Woodbury, Minnesota, Grand Junction, Colorado, Pocatello, Idaho, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Teterboro, New Jersey and Avondale, Arizona) India, Indonesia, Philippines and the brand's first location in Spain.

"Gold's Gym is experiencing record franchise growth with sophisticated business investors across the world," said Keith Albright, senior vice president of Gold's Gym franchising. "With an inviting atmosphere, innovative amenities, and first-class service, consumer demand for Gold's Gym is at an all-time high."

Gold's Gym continues to attract experienced, well capitalized franchise investors who are provided a solid business model with comprehensive support including real estate, construction, architecture, marketing, and operations training. The support extends to investors opening newly built Gold's Gym locations or those choosing to take part in the company's new conversion program, turning independent clubs and other brands into Gold's Gyms.

"Gold's Gym provides experienced entrepreneurs from a variety of backgrounds the rare opportunity to invest in one of the world's most popular brands and have a positive effect on the communities they serve," added Albright. "We look forward to propelling growth through franchise and corporate-owned locations throughout large and small markets worldwide."

In early 2007, Gold's Gym announced aggressive U.S. expansion plans aiming to add 200 new gym facilities by 2010 that would increase the number of franchised locations in the U.S. from 465 to more than 650. During the fourth quarter of 2007, the company announced it had set a record for signed franchise agreements with more than 100 locations added to the company's development pipeline.

Featuring innovative exercise options such as cardio cinemas – a cluster of cardio machines in a theatre style environment – Gold's Gym offers the most advanced fitness equipment and workout programs, including group exercise, personal training, Pilates and yoga.
