Carrabba's Takes Top Honors at Nation's Longest Running Culinary Arts Festival for Second Consecutive Year
TAMPA, Fla., May 22 // PRNewswire // -- Carrabba's Italian Grill, known for bold dishes inspired by the authentic family recipes of founders Johnny Carrabba and Damian Mandola, won the "Best Overall Dish" and "Best Entree" awards for its Chicken Bryan dish at the Best of Taste culinary competition which precedes the Taste of Cincinnati festival. This marks the second consecutive year that Carrabba's Chicken Bryan has won the "Best Overall Dish" category. Carrabba's also took top honors in additional Best of Taste awards for other menu items. Carrabba's has three locations in the Cincinnati area including Crestview Hills, Beechmont and Deerfield Township.
The Best of Taste competition is judged by regional celebrities and occurs prior to the Taste of Cincinnati, festival which is held annually over the Memorial Day weekend. The Best of Taste Awards are viewed as Cincinnati's most prestigious culinary awards. Carrabba's is one of the 40 restaurants whose menu items were judged at the competition and will be featured at the Taste of Cincinnati festival.
Chicken Bryan is an 8 ounce grilled chicken breast, topped with Caprino goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes and a basil lemon butter sauce. The dish is prepared over Carrabba's signature wood-burning grill where it is basted with a special mixture of ingredients all adding to the chicken's famous flavor and tenderness. Chicken Bryan is named after the city of Bryan, Texas, where the Carrabba family settled after emigrating from Italy to the United States.
"Chicken Bryan is one of our most ordered dishes at Carrabba's, and we're honored that it has been recognized in the best entree and best overall dish categories," said Johnny Carrabba, co-founder of Carrabba's. "It is also very fulfilling for us since our recipes have been passed down in our family for four generations."
In addition to winning the "Best Overall Dish" and "Best Entree" awards, Carrabba's also won in two other Best of Taste categories. Carrabba's Salmon Citriolini won the "Award of Excellence, Seafood Entree," and Mama Mandola's Sicilian Chicken Soup won the "Award of Excellence, Soup and Salad."
The Best of Taste competition serves as the harbinger for the annual Taste of Cincinnati. Taste of Cincinnati is held every Memorial Day weekend in downtown Cincinnati by the Downtown Council and the Greater Cincinnati Restaurant Association. Started in 1979, it is now the nation's longest running culinary arts festival. Approximately 500,000 now attend the annual food extravaganza, making it one of the nation's largest street festivals. Taste of Cincinnati was named Food Event of the Year for 1997 by Events Business News, the recognized authority of the special events business in the United States, selecting it out of 40,000 special events across the nation.
Carrabba's Italian Grill was founded by Johnny Carrabba and Damian Mandola in Houston, Texas in 1986. The restaurant features hand-prepared family recipes made from the finest ingredients and prepared to order in an exhibition kitchen. The success of Carrabba's led to the popular PBS cooking show Cucina!, starring Carrabba and Mandola, as well as a series of companion cookbooks. There are currently 239 Carrabba's Italian Grill locations around the country, with another three locations planned for 2008. In Cincinnati, Carrabba's is located in Crestview Hills, Beechmont and Deerfield Township. For more information, please visit http://www.carrabbas.com .
