Superior Walls Chosen for This Old House Project

May 29, 2008 // Franchising.com // NEW HOLLAND, PA. – Energy-efficient Superior Walls® Xi™ wall panels have been selected as the basement foundation for the next project on the Emmy Award-winning television series This Old House. The show is partnering with New Hampshire-based custom homebuilding company Bensonwood to build a new timberframe home in Weston, Massachusetts. New episodes of the This Old House Weston project premiere nationally on PBS this October.

On Thursday, May 29, 2008, the foundation walls will be installed in the Weston home by the certified crew from Superior Walls by Jointa Lime out of Schenectady, New York. The extensive foundation system was constructed by Superior Walls of Upstate New York in Lima, New York. Adam Campbell, CAD and Operations Specialist for Superior Walls of America, drew the home's foundation plans and will be on site during the installation as This Old House team members explain the components of the foundation system.

The Superior Walls Xi wall panels selected for the show are constructed with a concrete face shell, backed by 2-1/2-inches of DOW® extruded polystyrene insulation. The steel reinforced precast concrete walls create a permanent barrier against sidewall water penetration, making the home damp proof.

"This is the second house project we've worked on with This Old House," says Lori Zook, marketing program manager for Superior Walls®. "The Weston project focuses on state-of-the-art technology. Cutting-edge techniques, including extensive uses of prefabrication and green technologies are being used in the construction of this house. Superior Walls products are the perfect complement for the home's design.

"The Superior Walls precast concrete wall panels, containing a layer of DOW extruded polystyrene insulation, provide an exceptionally energy-efficient foundation for the home."

Each Superior Walls panel is custom made to the specifications of an individual home, including built-in openings for windows and doors. Foundations systems generally install in a day or less by certified installation crews, making it possible for builders to begin construction within 24 hours. Pre-engineered access for wiring or small plumbing elements along with smart stud facing for easy drywall installation are included and help speed up the installation process for additional living space.

The precast insulated foundation systems provided by Superior Walls will help the homeowners save on energy bills and allow them to fully utilize their basement space as functioning and comfortable living areas in the home, not just storage space.

Available nationwide through franchises in 30 states, more than 85,000 Superior Walls foundations have been installed since 1981 when the company introduced the original R-5 Superior Walls precast foundation system. For more information, call 1-800-452-9255 or visit www.superiorwalls.com.
