Fourth Florence County Location Celebrates Grand Opening
June 06, 2008 // Franchising.com // FLORENCE, S.C. -- Zaxby's licensees and brothers Britt and Jim Poston will open the doors to Florence's newest Zaxby's restaurant this Monday. The new Zaxby's, located at 2100 Florence Harllee Blvd., next to the Holiday Inn off Interstate 95, will celebrate its grand opening with a Military Appreciation Day. Anyone who shows their valid military identification card will receive a free Meal Deal at the restaurant from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday.
"We are excited to offer another convenient location to residents," said Poston, who also owns the other Florence Zaxby's locations. "Zaxby's has enjoyed great success as a business, employer and community partner, and we are happy to be a part of this wonderful city and give back to our Florence neighbors who are serving our country."
Poston decided to host the Military Appreciation Day in honor of local Army National Guardsman Jordan Steinert. Steinert is a big fan of the restaurant. So much so that, while he was serving in Iraq earlier this year, he asked his family to send him some of Zaxby's famous Zax Sauce. The soldier's mother, Cathy Steinert, sent her son about 25 packs of the dipping sauce to help remind him of home while he was away for more than eight months.
"When I heard Jordan's story, it really inspired me. I have great admiration and respect for the sacrifice that our soldiers are making for our country," said Poston, who is a graduate of The Citadel. "They defend our freedom, so offering them a free meal is a small way we can show them our appreciation and support."
The new Zaxby's will operate 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. The restaurant showcases Zaxby's unique interior design, featuring a bright, open interior décor, complemented by vintage memorabilia and signage. The 2,400-square-foot unit will provide comfortable booths and tables, with a seating capacity of 58. Zaxby's also provides drive-thru services to meet the needs of customers on the go.
Poston believes the restaurant -- from the atmosphere to the service -- will exceed community expectations. "We've assembled a great team of over 40 team members who, we are confident, will deliver on the Zaxby's mission to 'consistently create encore experiences that enrich lives one person at a time,'" he said.
The new location is the fourth for Florence and the 67th for the Palmetto State. Zaxby's currently operates more than 435 locations in 12 states -- Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. An alternative to fast food, Zaxby's offers prepared-at-order chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads. Zaxby's most popular items are its hand-breaded Chicken Fingerz and Jumbo Buffalo Wings, smothered in a choice of eight sauces with names like Wimpy, Tongue Torch, Nuclear and Insane. The menu also offers innovative Zappetizers -- Onion Rings, Tater Chips (home-style potato chips) and Spicy Fried Mushrooms, as well as a variety of Party Platterz perfect for any family gathering or special occasion.
Zaxby's also offers five salads, or Zalads: The House, The Blue, The Caesar, The Zensation and The Chicken Salad Zalad. All of Zaxby's Zalads offer more chicken, fresh veggies, juicy tomatoes, unique ingredients, such as French-fried onions, and are larger than most salads offered elsewhere. Each is prepared with chicken, three kinds of lettuce, and a variety of toppings. The Zensation joins the menu for a limited time this spring and features Chicken Fingerz drizzled with honey sesame glaze, mixed with red cabbage, carrots, various greens, crispy wonton strips and is topped with Asian slaw. The Zensation is served with Citrus Vinaigrette dressing and a tasty veggie egg roll. All Zalads are assembled at the time the order is placed, versus being pre-made and stored in a cooler.
Zaxby's is a "quick-casual" restaurant chain headquartered in Athens, Ga. Zaxby's opened its first restaurant in Statesboro, Ga., in March 1990, and by July 2001 opened its 100th location in Jacksonville, Fla. Zaxby's celebrated its 200th restaurant opening in its hometown of Athens, Ga., in May 2004, and in December 2005 observed its 300th opening in Dallas, Ga. In October 2007 Zaxby's opened its 400th location in Macon, Ga.
