Lenny's Sub Shop Expands in Michigan

Trilen Group, LLC Buys Six Restaurants in Saginaw, Bay and Midland Counties

June 09, 2008 // Franchising.com // Memphis, TN – Lenny's Franchisor, LLC, franchisor of Lenny's Sub Shops, today announced that local franchisee group Trilen Group, LLC will open six restaurants in the Michigan counties of Saginaw, Bay, and Midland. Brian Evans, Vice-President of Trilen Group, LLC partnership plans to open two restaurants in each county, opening their first in Saginaw County in 2008. The development by Trilen Group, LLC is part of a major franchise expansion throughout Michigan.

"The sub sandwich sector is not only one of the fastest growing segments in the restaurant industry, but also a healthier alternative to burgers and other fried foods," said Evans. "We're proud to be part of this growing franchise and the local communities and look forward to feeding the local appetite with our sliced to order subs and grilled to order Philly Cheesesteaks."

While recession fears continue to hamper productivity and growth projections for many quick service restaurants, Lenny's Sub Shop is bucking the trend, having more than tripled its national presence since 2004.

Currently there are four restaurants operating in the state, and Lenny's Sub Shop plans to open an additional 20 to 25 locations in the Detroit area within the next five years. The Michigan expansion announcement is part of an aggressive national growth strategy targeting Ohio, Illinois, Colorado and Florida, among others.

"Based upon Michigan consumers' demand for another location, we look at Michigan as a perfect home for a friendly sub shop like Lenny's," said George Alvord, CEO of Lenny's Sub Shop. "With the business background of the Trilen Group partnership, they have what it takes to continue to grow the brand as a five-star operation in a market that can appreciate a quality sub sandwich."

Evans is a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities and is a commercial banker and resident of Saginaw and will be Vice-President in charge of finance and marketing for Trilen Group, LLC.

"More Food, More Taste, More Personality!"

Founded in 1998, Lenny's has stayed true to the original values that make it a first-class concept.

The emphasis on "More Food, More Taste, More Personality!" traces back to founder Len Moore, who opened the original Lenny's Sub Shop in a suburb of Memphis 10 years ago with one ambition – to create an authentic Philadelphia-style sub shop reminiscent of his early East Coast days. From the beginning, Len focused on building a better sandwich experience by providing special touches that give the QSR a full-service feel. Attentive employees greet guests at the door, provide refills and bus their tables.

At Lenny's, guests won't see a garbage can anywhere in the dining area (there's no need since staff takes care of discarding plates and trash for diners), and the booths, unlike those found at typical sub shop outlets, are oversized and cushioned for added comfort. Meanwhile, the deli cases display the finest quality meat and cheeses and guests enjoy regular sandwiches containing about half a pound of meat and cheese, while the aroma of Philly Cheesesteaks fills the air as they are visibly grilled in a windowed kitchen area.
