Newest Good Earth Cafe Supports Nutritious Lunches for Calgary Kids

New café supports healthy meals program by donating 50% of its lunch sales to feed Calgary's school kids.

CALGARY, ALBERTA, MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - June 9, 2008) - Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery is proud to announce its newest cafe will donate 50% of its lunch sales on June 11, 2008 to Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids, an organization that helps to eliminate hunger in Calgary's schools and provide a chance for at-risk youth to successfully complete their education.

"We're proud to work with Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids (BB4CK)," says Connie Chan, Director of Marketing, Good Earth Cafes. "Their mission is to act as a catalyst for community based solutions to break down barriers caused by malnutrition. Supporting BB4CK gives Good Earth the opportunity to help create better communities."

The newest Good Earth café is owned and operated by Calgarians Amyna and Aleem Kassam. "As a business owner and private citizen, operating a Good Earth cafe allows me to align my values with theirs. Like Good Earth, we believe in creating better communities through our community involvement. Working with Brown Bagging it for Calgary's Kids lets us do that," says Amyna Kassam, Franchise Operating Partner.

"Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids has enjoyed a long relationship with Good Earth Cafes and their continued support and generous exposure has assisted us in raising the issue of child hunger and spark solutions that Calgarians can take, says Bob McInnis, Executive Director of Brown Bagging For Calgary Kids. "As a result on our first Kids Help Kids campaign with Good Earth Cafes, a group of mothers in northwest Calgary realized that there were hungry kids in their neighbourhood and they devised and implemented their own solution. BB4CK continues to feed about 1000 kids every day and 100% of this donation will go directly into purchasing food for those meals."

The Kassams will be celebrating the opening of their new café with a Grand Opening event on June 11th. Everyone is welcome to the ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00 am, followed by free brewed coffee and food and beverage sampling from 10:00 am to noon and a prize draw. Customers will be encouraged to share in our support of Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids by making personal donations to the organization. The Good Earth café at 333 5th Avenue SW in downtown Calgary is the chains fifteenth location. Good Earth cafes are found in Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton.
