More innovation from Bartercard - cash loans to help Business Sector

Australia's largest barter exchange company, Bartercard Australia, backed by some of the world's leading money lenders, can now provide comprehensive and flexible cash lending options for its more than 23,000 members nationwide.

June 12, 2008 // Franchising.com // Bartercard, through its strategic partnership with white label finance specialist Wilson National, will source wholesale finance from a variety of money lenders including the world's largest AAA rated lender to offer flexible cash loans tailored to suit both the business and lifestyle needs of its members in a program called Members Plus Money.

Members Plus Money offers financial products exclusively to Bartercard members including:

  • Equipment rental finance

  • Home loans

  • Commercial loans and leasing

  • Personal loans

The Members Plus Money initiative is the latest in a series of member benefits introduced since the Australian management buy out (MBO) of Bartercard Australia in August 2007 when the new owners pledged to take the organisation in a new direction.

In launching Members Plus Money today, Bartercard Australia Managing Director Trevor Dietz said that access to affordable capital was one of the biggest constraints on business in Australia.

"Bartercard Australia is made up of more than 23,000 innovative small to medium business operators whose opportunities are often only limited by the availability of affordable funds," Mr Dietz said.

"Members Plus Money provides additional value to Bartercard members, further demonstrating our commitment to go beyond a barter exchange and be a total business and lifestyle solution.
Bartercard is fast becoming recognised as Australia's leading business-to-business service provider and incentives like Members Plus Money is just another example of this commitment to our members."

Mr Dietz said that at the time of the MBO last year, the new ownership team had pledged to focus on the needs and expectations of members. This new approach to growing the business has so far manifested itself by the introduction of Bartercard's exclusive programs such as Members Plus, Club Platinum and Club Gold to reward members, increase their networking opportunities and assist them to be more profitable.

The lead product of Bartercard's Members Plus Money is Express Rental Plus. Andrew Barker, Bartercard Australia's National Development Manager, said that many businesses now understood the power of rental finance as they needed to keep pace with ever changing technology to remain competitive.

"Express Rental Plus gives our members access to $35,000 cash so they can purchase business equipment such as computers, furniture or specialised machinery. It is the perfect addition to our members' Bartercard account," said Mr Barker.
"Now they can obtain almost any type of equipment without outlaying working capital, and avoid the hassle of owning or disposing of obsolete equipment. The member chooses how much they want to spend, and Bartercard works with the member to decide on their rental terms. If the equipment is used to produce assessable income, members can structure repayments to benefit both their cashflow and taxation position."

Mr Barker said Members Plus Money was part of the Bartercard affinity program, Members Plus, which was created for all Bartercard members in response to member feedback on ways to improve service for business owners and provide benefits to add further value to their Bartercard membership.

"For our Members Plus affinity program, we are focusing strongly on establishing strategic relationships with partners that can offer specific benefits to our members' businesses and lifestyles," said Mr Barker. "Our latest partner, Wilson National, is a great fit for Bartercard. In addition to being a leading Australian wholesale finance specialist, it is the first full service lender in Australia to become carbon neutral – which is in line with Bartercard's commitment to the environment," said Mr Barker.

About Bartercard

Bartercard was founded in 1991 on the Gold Coast, Queensland, and has grown to become the world's largest barter exchange, with operations in 12 countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Bartercard assists more than 30,000 small-to-medium businesses in Australia and New Zealand (55,000 around the world) to trade their goods and services – without spending cash or the challenge of a direct swap.

Although the concept of barter is thousands of years old, bartering through Bartercard is an innovative way of combining Internet technology, a network of businesses and direct and indirect marketing channels to increase a business' customer base, sales and profit, and improve cashflow.

Bartercard Australia was bought from Bartercard International in a management buy out in August 2007. It is now 99.5 per cent Australian-owned with almost three quarters of its share base in the hands of Managing Director Trevor Dietz, Chairman Murray d'Almeida, and Executive Director of Sales and Marketing and co-founder Brian Hall. The remainder is held by an Australian private equity consortium. www.bartercard.com.au
