InterContinental Chicago O'Hare Opens Marking Continued Growth For Brand

Three New InterContinental Hotels & Resorts Properties to Open in The Americas this Month

September 10, 2008 // Franchising.com // Atlanta - Furthering what has already been an aggressive year of growth, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts debuts its newest property in the United States, InterContinental Chicago O'Hare. The property marks the first of three new InterContinental hotels to open in different parts of The Americas region in just 10 days - other locations include Mexico and Costa Rica - and raises the brand's total number of Hotels and Resorts in the U.S. from 13 to 23.

Located in the Rosemont neighborhood, just minutes from Chicago O'Hare International Airport, the modern, 556-room hotel joins sister hotel InterContinental Chicago, which has long been a Windy City staple. Conveniently situated across the street from the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, next door to the Rosemont Theatre and within easy access to the Allstate Arena, InterContinental Chicago O'Hare is a destination unto itself. The hotel features a variety of amenities for business and leisure travelers alike, such as 70 Executive and VIP suites with soaking tubs and invigorating steam showers; the exclusive Club InterContinental Lounge; 53,000 square-feet of flexible meeting and social space; a dedicated flight center where guests can check the real-time status of their flights and take advantage of online check-in; and three world-class, on-site restaurants, including McCormick & Schmicks and The Capital Grille.

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of InterContinental Chicago O'Hare is the hotel's dedication to the arts, an element intrinsic throughout the hotel. The property boasts an unprecedented art gallery, which is managed by full-time curator Editions Limited, and displays a bi-annually rotating collection and auction of commissioned artwork from well-known local and international artists. The hotel embraces all of the arts, including canvas, sculpture, music and photography, and integrates them into an intriguing setting of culture and elegance. The hotel will also offer daily curator-lead Champagne art tours of its beautiful original art installations.

This authentic dedication to the arts is woven throughout InterContinental Chicago O'Hare. Not only are the hotel's 556 stylish guest rooms and suites each accented with original works by Chicago artists, Thomas Masters and Jay Ryan, but many of the hotel's employees - nearly 70 percent of the front desk and Concierge staff - are artists or art students themselves. The hotel also features a 275-seat, live entertainment venue which will play host to a variety of musical and comedy acts.

On the heels of the brand's recent development in the Western Region of the U.S. - InterContinental San Francisco opened in February, InterContinental The Clement Monterey followed in May, and the brand's first resort property in the U.S., InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa, will debut this fall in Scottsdale, AZ - InterContinental Chicago O'Hare is yet another signal of good growth for the brand. By November, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts will have opened 10 new properties in the U.S. alone since April 2006, almost doubling the brand's size and presence in the region during this short period of time.

The next two properties to debut in the coming days are:

Presidente InterContinental Puebla - September 10

Following US$14 million in investments, the Presidente InterContinental Puebla will celebrate its grand opening on September 10, marking Mexico's tenth Presidente InterContinental property. Designed in a classic contemporary architectural style, the new hotel is located on the main road between Mexico's most important port city of Veracruz and Mexico City. With 174 exquisitely furnished guest rooms and suites, the hotel boasts beautiful views of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes and offers world-class services and amenities including the invigorating Sensacionelle Spa, more than 14,000 square-feet of meeting and convention space with state-of-the-art technology; and two gourmet restaurants, La Cocina de Los Angeles which offers an authentic Mexican and international menu and Alfredo Di Roma, serving authentic Italian cuisine. The property is complete with a heliport and a full-service modern fitness center.

Real InterContinental Hotel & Club Tower Costa Rica - September 18

Located in San Jose's growing Escazú neighborhood, a new 110-room Club InterContinental Tower will open on September 18 as part of the Real InterContinental Costa Rica, which has also undergone a complete renovation and upgrade. The new tower marks an exciting evolution in the brand's exclusive Club InterContinental concept and exemplifies the brand's dedication to providing guests with the utmost in luxury and personal convenience. Features of the Club Tower include a private lobby, reception area and porte cochere, an oversized Club InterContinental lounge and a more than 2,600 square-foot presidential suite, which is one of the largest in the region. The tower also boasts a 16,000-square-foot spa, the largest urban spa in Central America.
