Coldwell Banker Commercial Raises Over $20,000 in Second Annual "Climb For Kids' Sake" to Support Big Brothers Big Sisters

CBC Mountain Climbing Team Led By President Rick Davidson Scales Mount Rainier and Mount Adams

October 09, 2008 // Franchising.com // PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- Coldwell Banker Commercial (CBC) Affiliates, one of the largest franchisors of commercial real estate brokerage firms, raised over $20,000 by completing the 2008 edition of the Climb For Kids' Sake, the company's second annual fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the worldwide leader in one-to-one youth service.

The physically demanding Climb For Kids' Sake is truly a "one of its kind" fundraising event. Over a five day period beginning Sept. 20, a team of CBC mountain climbers, organized by Rick Davidson company president and COO, scaled two mountains in Washington state - Mount Rainier followed by Mount Adams. The Climb was originated in 2007 to raise both funds and awareness for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization.

The team members trained several months in advance to prepare for the climbs. The CBC team hauled 40-pound backpacks and endured up to 50 mile-per-hour winds through two separate ascents up both mountains. However, the team, which included both a grandfather and a grandmother, faced nature's challenges head on. The weather ultimately proved too much to make the summit on both mountains, but the team's fortitude is an inspiration to the entire Coldwell Banker Commercial company.

"On behalf of the entire climbing team, we thank everyone for their support, and we are all honored to have been a part of this experience," said Davidson. "No matter what we do to prepare, we will always be faced with forces beyond our control. What makes us successful in work or in life isn't necessarily the summits we reach but how we handle the unforeseen and unexpected challenges we will inevitably face. This Climb for Kids Team 2008 certainly faced adversity, and they handled it with honor, guts and an unrelenting determination to succeed. So while the climb has come to an end for this year, the lessons we all learned will forever be a part of how we approach our business and our lives. You can bet that when life or the market throws this team a curve ball in the future, the lessons of the mountains will play an ever-increasingly important role in how they prepare, how they win and as importantly how they lose."

The Coldwell Banker Commercial professionals joining Davidson for the climb included:

  • Brenda Kay Ramm, Coldwell Banker Commercial Alfonso Realty, Gulfport, Miss.
  • Steve DuBrueler, Coldwell Banker Commercial Capitol Realty, Winchester, Va.
  • G.G Galloway, Coldwell Banker Commercial Benchmark, Ormond Beach, Fla.
  • Steve Maygar, Coldwell Banker Commercial Trademark Properties, Raleigh, NC.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the country. It has been the leader in one-to-one youth services for more than a century, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people. The nationwide support for the organization, in both volunteers and donors, has never been stronger and the number of children served nationwide has doubled in the last few years. Yet, the surge in volunteers has been disproportionately female and more men are needed to help boys develop their self-confidence, stay in school and reach their potential. With nearly 400 affiliates across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Guam, Big Brothers Big Sisters served 255,000 children in 2007 - more than twice the number of five years ago. The BBBS website is BigBrothersBigSisters.org.
