The Little Gym of Fort Worth SW Introduces Kids' Cheerleading Program

Non-Competitive Classes Teach Cheer Basics with a Focus on Fun

Fort Worth, Texas, Nov. 6 // PRNewswire // -- In January 2009, the nation's first non-competitive cheerleading program for girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 6 will be offered at The Little Gym of Fort Worth SW. With an emphasis on fun, team-building and individualized attention, the new program will encompass all aspects of cheerleading, including sideline cheers and chants, stunts and routines. The 20-week long program will culminate in a Show Week, where students perform a routine showcasing the skills they learned in class.

"From a developmental standpoint, cheerleading is terrific for kids," said Brette Corder, owner of The Little Gym of Fort Worth SW. "Using pom-poms develops their fine motor skills, the stunts and movements teach coordination and balance, and it's all done in a team environment that helps kids build trust among one another."

With an estimated 3 million cheerleaders in the United States today, the sport is growing in popularity. The Little Gym's program was developed in response to parents' requests for "kids' cheerleading with a performance aspect but without the cut-throat competition," said Brette Corder. Brette added that kids who are part of The Little Gym's non-competitive cheerleading program will not be behind in a competitive cheerleading program.

Classes will consist of cheerleading, along with stunts and other gymnastics activities. Lesson plans will encompass what is new and cutting edge in cheerleading, balanced by developmental music and weekly themes - such as Popsicle Pirates, Upside Down Week and Finish Festival - to make the classes kid-friendly. Two trained instructors will lead classes of no more than 14 students to ensure that each child receives plenty of individual attention.

The Little Gym of Fort Worth SW also offers gymnastics, sports skills, karate and dance classes.

Classes are taught from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturdays, with birthday parties and parents' survival nights offered on weekends. For information on the cheerleading program or the gym's other offerings, call (817) 346-9655.
