AHC/Zero's Subs Continues Franchise Growth Despite Poor Economy

Quick Service Franchisor to Open Nine Stores on the West Coast by the End of the First Quarter

GLENDALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AHC/Zero's Subs continues to buck the declining economy by opening four new restaurants in California by the end of the first quarter, with a fifth under contract. Furthermore, the franchisor will continue aggressive West Coast expansion in 2009, with five locations in the works.

With more than 40 years in the quick-serve restaurant industry, AHC/Zero's Subs is rapidly expanding stores across California, including Olancha, which opened last month, and Coronado Island, which opens in mid-December. Restaurants in Montebello and Anaheim will follow in January. Zero's Subs franchise agreements, including several multi-unit sales, have been signed for locations in Koreatown, Hollywood, West Los Angeles, Vermont/Silverlake, and Pasadena/Glendale.

"Zero's Subs is growing domestically while others are constricting in the tight economy," said AHC/Zero's Chairman Elizabeth Fitzpatrick. She attributes the success to the versatility Zero's Subs offers their franchisees, including an innovative new "MicroStore™" concept.

At Zero's Subs "Micro" locations, franchisees can replace "static food" offerings with healthy, made-to-order subs, pizzas and wings--all within minimal existing space. By using existing equipment and facing no external construction requirements, owners of businesses such as gas stations, liquor stores, convenience stores and others can generate more income per square foot with a minimal time and financial investment.

Zero' Subs will also continue to grow traditional stores, such as Modesto, CA and the forthcoming Anaheim location. "What makes Zero's Subs attractive to franchisees is that we recognize the importance of support and flexibility," says Tracy Taft, Director of Operations. "The blueprint that works for a store in Northern Arizona may not work for one in Central Los Angeles. In this down market, franchisees are calling more of the shots, and making decisions based on what's best for them. We stand behind them."

Currently, Zero's Subs operate 45 franchise locations in five states across the U.S., as well as China and New Zealand. They are currently offering franchise opportunities in Florida, California and Arizona.
