Wingstop Reaches 1.5 Billion Wings Sold Mark
Leading Chicken Wing Chain Finishes 2008 Strong, Hitting a Million Wings Per Day
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wingstop, the wing fanatic's favorite chicken wing chain, has achieved two major milestones as it wraps up business for 2008. The Dallas-based chain has now hit 1 million wings sold per day at the same time it has reached the 1.5 billion wings sold mark.
"As our store count grows and existing locations mature, we continue to see a rise in sales and the number of wings that fly out the door," said Jim Flynn, Wingstop CEO. "We are always thankful this time of year for our loyal patronage. With football and basketball watching events and holiday parties, we do a big business in party platters and online ordering goes up significantly."
By year's end, Wingstop will have opened 72 new restaurants in 2008. Comp store sales are also strong, as the chain recently posted 21 consecutive quarters of comp store sales increases.
Wingstop's home page, www.wingstop.com, has a wing counter that accurately keeps pace with the chain's wing sales. Flynn says he looks forward to the counter rolling over the 2 billion mark.
Wingstop offers restaurants with a nostalgic, aviation-themed atmosphere where the sole focus is on chicken wings, always starting with fresh wings, cooked to order in nine proprietary flavors. The chain also serves boneless wing strips that are made from 100 percent all-white meat chicken breast coated with a proprietary batter and breading. Wingstop features nine wing flavors, including Original Hot, Cajun, Atomic, Mild, Teriyaki, Lemon Pepper, Hawaiian, Garlic Parmesan, and Hickory Smoked BBQ. The wings are always made-to-order and served steaming hot. Customers can also choose from homemade side dishes including fresh-cut seasoned fries, bourbon baked beans, potato salad, creamy cole slaw, vegetable sticks, rolls and assorted dipping sauces.
Wingstop has more than 650 restaurants either open or under development in 32 states and consistently tops industry growth rankings. Wingstop recently won an American Business Award for Best Overall Company and is 125th on Entrepreneur's 2008 Franchise 500 list and was chosen Wing King at the 2006 National Buffalo Wing Festival. Troy Aikman, three-time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Fame quarterback, has served as the chain's national spokesman since 2003. Aikman extended his contract in 2006 for three years, as Wingstop has posted 21 consecutive quarters of comp store sales increases since the partnership.
