Boston Pizza builds its presence in Calgary with opening of 19th restaurant
Creates 40 new jobs and strong community partnerships
December 23, 2008 // Franchising.com // Calgary, - Boston Pizza International Inc. announces the grand opening of its newest restaurant and sports bar in Calgary, located at 80 Saddletowne Circle. Celebrating it's opening on Monday, December 22, 2008 the new restaurant will enhance the community through the creation of 40 new jobs and a commitment to strong community partnerships.
The new location is the 19th Boston Pizza restaurant to open in Calgary and is owned by longtime resident Larry Downey in partnership with Jim Downey, Pat Downey, Jennifer Whatley, Calvin Studholme, and Udara Jayawarna. Studholme will also serve as the general manager. With 23 years of restaurant experience and owner of two other Boston Pizza locations, the Downey family is excited to open the Saddleridge location.

Upholding the Boston Pizza tradition of giving back to the community, the new Saddleridge location will play an active role in this region of Calgary. Even before its doors officially open to the public, the staff will pool their tips collected from six "dress rehearsals" along with food donations collected throughout the week and donate them to the Interfaith Food Bank at the grand opening party. The restaurant will officially open its doors to the community on Monday, December 22nd.
Year-round the new restaurant will actively support minor sports teams, schools and charities throughout the community, and raise funds for national charities including Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, Kids Help Phone and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation through the Boston Pizza Foundation, which has raised more than $8.2 million for various Canadian charities since its inception in 1990.
Boston Pizza offers guests two experiences under one roof - a full-service, casual dining room and a separate sports bar with local sports memorabilia and HD big screen TVs. With more than 100 menu items, guests can choose from 22 varieties of pizza, plus gourmet pasta, appetizers, ribs, entrées, salads and desserts. Boston Pizza also offers six Delicious Alternatives items with the Health CheckTM symbol and healthy options for kids. Boston Pizza also offers take-out and delivery service and is open late seven days a week.
