RadioShack Helps Raise $1.5 Million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital(R) Fifth-Annual Thanks and Giving(R) Campaign

RadioShack customers give generously during 2008 holiday shopping season

February 10, 2009 // Franchising.com // Fort Worth, TX -- RadioShack Corporation, through the generous support of its customers, raised nearly $1.5 million for the fifth-annual Thanks and Giving campaign, a national awareness and fundraising initiative for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital that ran throughout the holiday season.

Customers who shopped at RadioShack stores had the opportunity to make a donation to benefit St. Jude while paying for their purchases. RadioShack's company-operated and dealer stores participated in the campaign, which ran from Nov. 10 to Dec. 31, 2008.

"It was our pleasure to participate in the Thanks and Giving campaign," said Julian Day, chairman and chief executive officer of RadioShack. "Our customers and employees raised a lot of money to help children with life-threatening illnesses, and we applaud this outpouring of generosity."

"We couldn't be more pleased with RadioShack's success in the Thanks and Giving campaign," said Marlo Thomas, national outreach director for St. Jude. "This was RadioShack's first year as a St. Jude partner, and it's a remarkable achievement to raise $1.5 million. On behalf of the patients and families of St. Jude, I offer my heartfelt appreciation for the support that RadioShack employees and customers showed to St. Jude in embracing my father's dream that no child should die in the dawn of life."

The annual St. Jude Thanks and Giving national campaign is an unprecedented union of celebrities, media, retail and corporate partners that asks consumers to "Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not." The Thanks and Giving initiative was created in 2004 by Marlo Thomas and her siblings Terre and Tony Thomas, children of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas. Funds raised by the campaign support the lifesaving work of St. Jude - to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. St. Jude impacts the lives of children in communities across the country.
