May 18, 2009 // Franchising.com // Memphis, Tenn, – Embassy Suites Hotels recognized its top hotels during an awards ceremony at the brand's annual General Manager and Directors of Sales conference, held in San Diego May 12-14. More than 40 awards were presented to hotels chosen from the brand's portfolio of 200 hotels throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America. Each honored hotel received a trophy, monetary prize and individual recognition during the conference.

The Connie Awards, named in honor of company founder Conrad Hilton, are awarded based on three key components, including: quality assurance audits measuring cleanliness, condition and brand standards; customer scores rating staff service; and customer service scores rating the quality of the hotel's physical accommodations. The Hervey Feldman Award, named in honor of one of the pioneers of the Embassy Suites brand and the brand's first president, recognizes the Embassy Suites General Manager of Year. The 2008 honor went to Michael McGilligan, general manager of the Embassy Suites San Diego-La Jolla. McGilligan led his hotel team through an extensive multi-million dollar renovation, and the hotel recently earned the City of San Diego's prestigious Recycler of the Year award.
Lenore Elvir, director of sales at the Embassy Suites Baton Rouge, was awarded Director of Sales of the Year, while the sales team at the Embassy Suites Tampa-Downtown Convention Center was awarded the Sales Team of the Year Award. Tina Rodriguez, of the Embassy Suites Brea-North Orange County, was honored with the Revenue Manager of the Year Award. The awards are given to individuals who demonstrate leadership, accountability, business sense and creativity in the area of sales for their hotel.
Special recognition went to the entire staff at the Embassy Suites Charlotte-Concord/Golf Resort & Spa for demonstrating the Embassy Suites Make a Difference service culture. The team was honored as the Make a Difference Hotel of the Year for its outstanding community service in Concord, NC, as well as for creating several team member initiatives aimed at increasing the hotel's guest service satisfaction scores.
