May 18, 2009 // Franchising.com // Davie, Florida – FROOTS, a rapidly growing quick service food and smoothies franchise, announces the opening of its newest restaurant in Las Vegas. The owners of the new restaurant are husband and wife team John and Kathy Tan. FROOTS was created in 2001 by David Lopez and has been franchising since 2004. Lopez discovered the popularity of fresh fruit smoothies while in college and turned his part-time job into a full-time passion. Besides smoothies, FROOTS offers diners a number of healthy food and beverage choices, making it a popular choice for families.
When the Tans were looking for a business to buy and run together, they were more than a little influenced by children, Austine, 14 and Jack, age 2 ½. "We wanted to find a business that would compliment the community," said Kathy, "and also be a place that would be good for families. FROOTS just fit both of these categories perfectly."
The Grand Opening of the Tan's FROOTS restaurant was held on Saturday, May 2, 2009. A formal ribbon cutting ceremony took place during the event and Councilman Wolfson of the 2nd ward was present to do the ribbon cutting honors.
The Tans, who are 15-year residents of Las Vegas, are very excited to be able to bring FROOTS to their community. "We wanted to find a restaurant that provided a healthy and quick service option for our neighbors, something different from the usual pizza and burgers." said Kathy. "We believe that this will be a great choice for dining in our area."
The Tan's FROOTS is located at 8000 W. Sahara in Las Vegas, in a former Starbucks store. "It's a great location," said John. We have two gyms within 1.5 miles of our restaurant so it should be a popular spot for after workout refueling!"
FROOTS offers a variety of fresh and healthy foods. Diners have many options for low fat and low calorie meals, like the Chinese chicken salad with Oriental sesame dressing or a Mediterranean wrap with humus and feta. Breakfast items include such taste-tempting items as tofu garden and Mexico Jack wraps. Gourmet soups are made fresh daily and there is also a children's menu which will please even the pickiest eaters.
A FROOT smoothie will fulfill a diner's daily requirement for berries, bananas or more exotic tropical blends and if an Oreo cookie shake has appeal, they can have it with fat-free yogurt – almost guilt free! Other items include green tea, wheatgrass shots, performance smoothies with additives like protein powder or fat burner blends, and Red Bull® smoothies for an extra blast of energy. Menu items are changed quarterly, which gives customers the opportunity to have new food choices but at their same, favorite restaurant.
